Community Smoke Detector Installation

The fire safety house is the newest addition to our education program. It is used to teach fire safety in the home to first through third grade students, and, due to the one-story design, may be used with adults and seniors. This mobile unit has a kitchen where children learn to unplug appliances, turn pan handles in, keep the stove top clear and other important cooking tips. In the den area, topics such as smoke detectors, calling 911, and fireplace and heating safety are discussed. There is a bedroom set up to teach children to roll out of bed, crawl low under smoke to the bedroom floor, feel the door before opening and exit out a window to safety. A specially designed telephone allows the children to practice calling 911 and speak with a real operator. The program lasts approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on groups size and location. The Fire Safety House can be brought to larger groups such as schools during good weather. We feel very fortunate to have this excellent training tool and take its use seriously. Note: The Fire Safety House is not available for use as a booth at carnivals, fairs and other events. In addition, there must be suitable room and space for this 32' trailer and truck.
